Anaerobic Threshold
If you are afraid of threshold it’s because you aren’t intimate enough with it to understand it.

It’s thres-hold not stress-hold 👇
It’s the point between accumulation and clearance.
What is it you are teaching yourself? Pace, intensity, speed, power, heart rate maybe?
The hidden substruct that governs your ability to handle threshold is subtle.
What you are really doing is teaching yourself how to become a conduit to lactate..
It’s a very fine line that requires felt sense attention. That prickly aliveness that we all ignore in our body to follow what we think the demand is…. What pace? What power? What heart rate? They are byproducts……output not input.
People get lost trying to input the output.
Or they get totally lost trying to trump the digit that came out last time they did this. Comparison, judgment, analysis and rumination.
Immediately If they can’t match that number there’s stress, tension, effort, straining, force and resistance.
Indeed ive seen athletes nervous because I’ve scheduled threshold. Not because of the demand but because of their own internal fear of failure to meet the demand.
If you are afraid of threshold it’s because you aren’t intimate enough with it to understand it.
If you think that isn’t coming out there on race day with you you’re delusional.
So here’s a hack;
Threshold demands more of your embodied attention than any other session. The fine attention to what’s being felt….getting to know the bubble zone intimately is an opening to what you feel, not what you think.
Until you can bring the focus inside….you’ll stand outside like a fucking passenger to your own session, being dictated to be a screen and an ego that is not happy.
Then when you race you’ll be all over the shop like a cheap suit, too hard, not hard enough. Threshold is right in the middle of everything your mind doesn’t have the capacity to hold.
Because by the time it hits your head it’s too late.
Speed, power and flow are products of your bodies “movement” stay with the movement, don’t withdraw your attention. Be open to feeling it like you’d pay attention to a breeze on your cheek.
Deeper and deeper in….feel…sensate….micro adjustments, subtle subtle……let the tension melt…let the demand go and be totally with your bodies output.
Otherwise when the pace gets too much for your ignorance, your pain receptors are going to fire up and your mind is going to reject it.
Speed power and flow wait at the junction of your ability to stay with the feeling.
