Do You Really Wanna Get After It?

Mental Skills

Then you begin to truly understand that the uncomfortable trials you face will also introduce you to your own strengths.

Do you really want to get after it? Good. Give up your fear of loss…

Athletes have a hard time letting go of suffering….out of fear of the unknown. Better the devil you know. Safer to wrestle with the familiar.

So it’s easier to disassociate. Label the discomfort as something debilitating rather than admit that maybe we have more responsibility for that suffering than we thought.

Instead of accepting the discomfort, we judge it. Judge our own ability to meet it head-on. We attach ourselves to the suffering and create a victim mindset, closing down any real chance to be with it.

Nobody’s gonna want to read this, I know that. It’s not like it’s gonna be popular. But I tell you what….it’s the uncomfortable truth. I’ve sat with enough athletes over a long enough period to know it.
Why should you give a shit?

Because if you can see it for what it is, you can do something about it. You can start inviting yourself to feel the unfamiliar.

Unfamiliar equals uncomfortable. And you don’t get growth without discomfort. Take responsibility for the suffering by exposing yourself to it; without labeling it as suffering.

Then you begin to truly understand that the uncomfortable trials you face will also introduce you to your own strengths.

So for what it’s worth, here’s my key observation of the problem at hand;
In the end, your fear of loss is greater than your desire for gain. That’s the shit that keeps us trapped in pain.

Fear of loss poisons your gain.

The growth you’re looking for is in the place you’re looking from.
