Hanging Onto Pain

Hanging Onto Pain

Mental Skills

So indeed, pain is temporary and suffering is optional.

Pain...

Problem is, many of us hang onto it for grim death, and for that reason it is a grim death — a living death, a suffering we put upon ourselves.
The more you run away from pain, the more it sticks to you.

Pain is an attachment. It’s so easy to unconsciously choose to make yourself a victim of it, or define yourself by it.
You know, the ole me-and-my-shitty-story routine we play in our heads when the screws really start turning…

So indeed, pain is temporary and suffering is optional.

The way to work with this attachment to pain is to go right down the centre of it.
You know it’s going to end. You purposely put yourself here, and now you’re trying to run away from it.

Truth is, you’re running away from yourself. So simply stop running away.
Stand your ground in the pain. Stop trying to escape. Let yourself feel it and stop f..king thinking it!

Stop denying it …. that’s just fruitless mental avoidance that increases your suffering.

“Pain is only bearable if we know it will end, not if we deny it exists.” — Victor Frankl

You’ve got to supply pain its escape route through you. Like everything else, it’s energy. It moves. It flows.

Yes, it’s mighty uncomfortable, but what better reason do you need to not hang onto it?

Letting go will allow you to hang on.
