It’s not about power and speed. It’s about your capacity to settle.
Now we all talk about the metrics, but consider this: if you can’t settle, you can’t stay!
Force travels through its own relaxation, not its tension.
Everyone tends to focus on the output, the effort, the force, and the idea that they have to overcome gravity and create the inertia to maintain the speed.
That’s a misery mindset…
Within your power lies the innate ability to down-regulate, create ease in the face of pain, and settle.
Yes, you can! The practice is to learn how to settle into pain rather than try to overcome pain.
You’re not overcoming anything; there is no escape.
If you get faster, you get more pain, not less…
But, you can melt into that painful suck by literally teaching your nervous system that there is no existential threat.
That settling sets the scene for a release of energy that is normally trapped by your brain’s own defence mechanisms.
Your body reacts to that threat message by creating the enemy of flow: tension.
That tension is the enemy within, not without…
I didn’t learn these lessons on the racetrack. I learnt them in India, the home of meditation and much of modern psychology. Trust me — you can melt the tension and tolerate far more than you realise.
It’s not in your head; it’s in your nervous system, running like a spider’s web through your entire body.
The practice? As the intensity up-regulates, you down-regulate.
Energy moves down as the intensity moves up. Practice that.
Calm down.
Settle.
