You can't coach suffering
“Suffering” is the most important leg of a triathlon. The big three live within it; endurance, tolerance and resilience.

Swim, bike, run, suffer….
What are you willing to put up with?
“Suffering” is the most important leg of a triathlon. The big three live within it; endurance, tolerance and resilience.
I remember when I was working with the pro group, picking the brains of a cycling coach working with pro teams in Europe telling me, you can’t coach suffering Gilesy they have to learn it. Drag them to where you know they need to go and the rest is up to them.
Training takes you as far as the city limits and tolerance takes you the rest of the way.
So here’s the question that you need to ask yourself regardless of what level your at;
What are you willing to put up with?
There’s a choice to made here; As the Buddhists would say, suffering is made of attachment.
Give up the attachment and you give up the suffering.
What then?
Realise deeply that no feeling is final and no failure is fatal. Let it all happen to you, the compression, the anxiety, the beauty and the terror.
Failure is part of the process, not the end of it.
You can’t integrate resistance….by its very nature it pushes out what you need to learn.
Like I used to say to the pro group; bike crashes, sickness, setbacks….
You can fucking strip away everything I have…I’ll get back up and get it all back again, because it’s not on me, it’s in me.
Let yourself burn friends. Throw another log of what you think you can’t do onto the fire….its burning up everything you aren’t made of.
Loss equates to lust when you’re plugged into your own power.
It either illuminates your enthusiasm or it snuffs it out. That’s a choice.
You can get it….if you let it.
